Impact "82-85" LP

This record (as the name suggests) collects early works from this legendary Italian hardcore punk band. It contains '82 demo (tracks 1-3), rehearsal from the same year (tracks 4 and 11), split 7" with Eu's Arse (tracks 5-10) and Solo Odio LP (tracks 12-21). You can hear moving from more punk sound of the first demo to a more aggressive sound in the later stuff. This is re-issued on CD as 80-87 which means that there's more stuff, but I won't buy it 'cause Giulio The Bastard (of Cripple Bastards) who did this LP and the CD is now promoting serbian chetniks, (and such moronic mentality) who are fascist from the WWII era same as ustashe here in Croatia (and who fought each other btw, which is even more weird 'cause Giulio's mother is croatian).
Anyway, later in the 90s Impact have gone through some sound changes which resulted in more and more bad stuff (in my opinion). Impact's last record (as far as I know) is split 7" from '95 with another Italian band called D.U.S.K. that has only the guitar player from the original line-up and I don't believe that I've ever listened their 2 songs or the other band's 'till the end. That's one of rare records that I'd not miss.
Anyway the stuff here is legendary and asskickin raw hardcore punk italian way. Enjoy!

This is great stuff, I got this as soon as it came out (later on I found out about the LP version...). If only the liner notes were in fucking english, too....

Can you say a bit more about the Bastard's Chetnik controversy? These are things that need to be out in the open!

I don't think that Giulio is fascist, it's just that he's into assholism (as the Cripple Bastards DVD says). It's just that someone from serbia made him think that such shit is cool. The thing is that to this day a lot of serbian people don't see chetniks as fascists (same here with ustashe) and such way of thinking goes well with glorifying criminals too. I could go for ages about such "turbo folk" mentality here, but I don't feel like it. I think that punx from ex-Yu are well fed up with it. Just check out turbo folk in wikipedia. You can also check out Ceca Raznatovic, who was married with Arkan, one of the biggest criminals in Belgrade and also a war criminal. He's put her photo on the about us page of his label web page called E.U. 91 Serbian League. (91 is the year when the war here broke out).
I personally don't know Giulio that good, we've met a couple of times (more than 10 years ago), but a lot of my friends know him well and my girlfriend too and she knows him as being OK, but childish and not too serious person. They've tried to talk to him about this Chetnik thing, but he wasn't listening.
I believe that all this is just assholism, but I'm not buying my records from assholes.

Shit, thanks! I've had no idea what to make of the label name - it was weird, to say the least, but I didn't connect it to the war. I've read a book on B-92 (the radio station) a year ago which I found great, so I've some background on 'Turbo folk' stuff, Arkan, & his turbo folk star Ceca. Naturally, I NEVER thought this would have anything to do w/ punk & HC - I mean, WTF??? Of course, now that I come to think of it, I was talking to a young, greek, grindcore fan this summer & he was telling me that he likes grind & extreme skyladika (the greek version of turbo folk down to an iota, I believe), so in the end it figures. Thanks again, now I'm pissed too...

Pozdrav.

oi malisha - I would love to hear more of this "turbo folk" stuff and giulio's involvement with things.

I'm not sure what you meant with "I would love to hear more of this "turbo folk" stuff". If you want to find out more about it try wikipedia or try to ask Whispy (see this comments) which book has he read. If you want to try to find the music itself, well I don't know, google blog search? And about Giulio, what can I say. I don't know him, I just know he's into all that stuff for the last couple of years. I've already written what I know/think and I don't wanna go on about someone liking something that I don't like. That's too tiring for me. Milan who commented on this post is from Serbia and he didn't mention this shit as I guess he is also tired of that shit too as almost all people from the ex-Yu scene are. Some people like gangsta rap that is IMO very similar shit and who gives a fuck about them. Not me.
Sorry if I'm not much of a help.

Oh, yes. I've updated link to your blog too. Cheers.

"I just know he's into all that stuff for the last couple of years" ... CB / Regurgitate split 7" released ca 10 years ago has EU'91 Serbianleague written on, so it's something more than a couple of years!! For what I could read on interviews the label changed into SerbianLeague in 1999 when NATO bombed Serbia and Montenegro, as a sort of supportive statement and path of unity wit his friends and relatives there. By the way, I'm not sure if there's anybody from Italy reading this blog but here in Italy the Cripple Bastards is now quite a popular band playing at big clubs always packed, if anybody could translate that shit.. some of the main underground mags around have published extensive interviews explaining this Balkan issue linked to CB and the Bastard has been showing the fact that he's Orthodox with blood ties in Serbia, baptized there and linked to a family somehow. Did you ever see the TV spot filmed there featuring him with an old folk band both singing in Serbian? By the way, I can't understand why Malisha says croatian when both his mother and him were born before 1991 when Croatia wasn't still a nation, it was Jugoslavia. How many Serbs were born in today's Croatia. Are you sure his mother is Catholic, so ethnically Croat?? So what's that link with Orthodoxy? Last thing: IMPACT is a great DIY band and they're still playing today, with a completely backtotheroots sound. They sell their own records by themselves at really cheap prices, that's were I bought this. I think it sucks spreading an electronic version of their music when I can support the band direct not giving a shit about the label... at least try to know the issues behind a bit better as we do here in Italy

Malisha Old 666 said...

Wow! I'll have to explain a lot here. Ok, so it's almost 10 years. It seems like a couple of years to me because I'm not wasting my time thinking about that. I don't like NATO bombing of Serbia. I don't think bad of Cripple Bastards as a band at all. I did not see the TV spot. I did not know that his mother is of serbian ancestry, I just know that she's from Krk which is in Croatia and that Giulio spent a lot of time there. A lot of serbs were born here and vice versa. You can put people from Slovenia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Montenegro in this group too. If it's stupid to say that his mum is croatian what about italian calling himself serbian? I could not give a less shit about someones (that includes me) nationality. And since you're stuck for the national issue saying that until 1991 Croatia wasn't a nation (I think you meant a state) when Giulio renamed the label Serbian League, Serbia wasn't "a nation" too, it was Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, so why not Yugoslavian League. I don't give a fuck about him being proud of being serbian, orthodox or whatever. I just don't like Chetnik part of the story (if you have read the comments before you'd know that).
I'm glad that Impact are still playing today, still DIY with a completely backtotheroots sound. I said that I don't like their split 7" with D.U.S.K. (I guess that I have the right to my opinion) and not that Impact sucks. Maybe the feedback from the fans is the reason why they have "completely backtotheroots sound" again. If they played here I'd buy records directly from them. And if someone founds out about Impact for the first time here on this site, they'll know that there's better and updated version of this out there to buy. If someone from the band (or the label) contacted me to remove this I'd do it right away. You think it sucks spreading an electronic version of out of print LP. I think it sucks to attack me "electronically" without even bother to fully read what I've wrote before. I'm sick and tired of this on-line "fights" which are mostly as lame as they can be and started by lame people that don't even have the decency to put their name behind their words. I've already lost more of my time on you then I should have, Anonymous.

Anonymous said...

well, first of all I'm very sorry that this sounds like an on-line fight to you, because it wasn't my intention to start a diatribe, but just to express a point of view, it may be critical/sarcastic but it's just colliding opinions. And I'm also sorry if I come up as anonymous but the form requires to be a member of blogspot.com and I don't need it. My name is Simone, I live in Riccione, Italy and if anybody can read italian I can leave my email here and once I get to a scanner I can send a scanning of the interview I was referring about. By the way, being a huge fan of early '80s italian Hardcore/Punk I can't understand many of the new generations' issues about punk values and deciding whom is to be boycotted. All I see is that the Bastard's label through the years has been putting out shitloads of great italian HC: WRETCHED, IMPACT, UNDERAGE, 5° BRACCIO (EX negazione), CCM and the list goes on. Bands of that era that have shared the stage with the Cripple Bastards are RAW POWER, EU'S ARSE, reformed DECLINO and so on.. plus add the fact that CB members run a sort of squat where red-skins NABAT have played more than once! So all these people have somehow collaborated "shoulder to shoulder" with him, and believe me the serbian issue is more than evident to everybody as long as it has been questioned, discussed and explained deep in detail. I would say indifference and carelessness of the older punk generation if this would involve 1-2 bands, but basically serbian league together with SOA (that is now out of action) and Agipunk are the 3 key names of italian '80s punk/HC re-issues!! When I read these internet gossips and boycotting, it just makes me smile the fact that after all a huge slice of the '80s italian Hardcore scene (that was soooo political) has been working with him knowing the facts and welcoming the Serbs' double-headed eagle logo on their CD, freedom or death etc. Maybe it's just the matter that once the facts are explained with brain, only the moronhead keeps yelling fascist, asshole or whatever... or maybe all those like me are too naive, superficial and in it for the music. I have never read a single interview where Giulio pretends to be a serb, he's just saying that he supports that cause and he's half of that country. For what I can understand, your national issue is all based on what somebody decided to be as a consequence of the 90s war, when final borders were traced. I'm skeptical on proud Yugoslavians nostalgic of SFRJ and "fuck the borders" mentality because it was all a bunch of shit kept together by Tito, and Tito used Arkan (and other latter proud Serb "criminals") in his secret services to eliminate political enemies abroad and had general Mladic on Kosovo's borders to Albania in the border police. Same way I can't take for serious two countries (Serbia and Croatia) each assuming that Nikola Tesla is in reality a Serb (because his father was a orthodox priest) ..and Croat (because he was born in an area of today's Croatia at that time with a strong orthodox ethnicity). It's an unsolved struggle so it's both appearing on Croatian and Serbian currency, and banks, monuments + streets on both sides are named after his name, TESLA WE DON'T GIVE UP hahahaha! And I have read that Croatia's president in war-times (Tudman) was one of those that gave the name (or officialized) Partizan's football team in Belgrade, maybe I'm mistaken. After all, I think that anybody born there or with family ties there is free to belong to where the fuck he feels closer, and this sounds very punk to me, too bad we don't have the same thing here!! All I can agree with what you said is that it's fucked up being a Chetnik, but once again.. a matter of tastes, who on the cake wasn't involved in dirty affairs? Ustashas, Chetniks, the Bosniac muslim divisions allied to Hitler.. and even Tito's prison island in Goli Otok wasn't better than many of the atrocities that where committed before and after him. I don't think that "who was allied with who" was so relevant in the Balkans' history in 2WW, because the matter was getting reinforcements to kill as much enemies as possible + add some extra burnt village, it was an all against all war, true black or reds can't be defined as in the history of other countries. So all I can do is sit down and enjoy.. in this case I get both great music and head-breaking controversies to read about, it may sound cynical but it's entertaining.

So, Simone. You don't have to be a member of blogspot to leave your name on your comment, but nevermind that, it's easier to have a name behind a person. Thanks.
I also like italian 80s hardcore punk scene a lot and Giulio's (together with other labels that you've mentioned) label puts truly great records out and there's no question about it. It's great that they provide good quality releases of old stuff to the new kids rather then getting it on blogs like this one in inferior mp3 format. Also, as I've written a couple of times before that I separate Cripple Bastards as a band from Giulios views on things. And not to go into every detail that you've written as I'm not into writing essays, there's no wonder that everyone wants a part of Tesla because he was a fucking genious and way ahead of his (and present) time. If aliens come on this planet I bet that they'd also say that he was actually one of them. Franjo Tuđman was president of the military sports company Partizan (FC Partizan) in early 60s and if I've heard right he was the one that changed their "uniforms" from white to black and white, but I don't see what this has to do with any of this. You wrote before "at least try to know the issues", but as I can see that you're getting some of the things wrong too and trying to explain things about this place to people who actually live here and experienced all the shit which is all by itself self-explanatory and pointless. Almost all of the (historical) people you've mentioned are a bunch of cunts anyway (except Tesla of course) and if somebody's indifferent about what they did or is trying to water down their deeds with saying they did it for their country or whatever (bunch of people here in Croatia is doing the same with ustashe and their crimes) is a cunt too. People here know who did what. I'm not deciding whom is to be boycotted, but I know whom I will boycott because I won't buy stuff with "freedom or death" on it because that comes from Chetnik flag and Giulio knows that very well. And what's your excuse for that? The old bands don't seem to mind that? That's shit.
Please don't bother me with this anymore. I'm not offended or anything, I just don't have the strenght or time to do this and we could go on for ages. Any comment, even critical/sarcastic one is very welcome and you enjoy great music and "head-breaking controversies" that entertain you. I'm not some politically correct type (often quite the opposite), it's just that I cannot go over this one. All the best to you.
